Maybe you want to visit India for a while. Who doesn’t want to go to the Taj Mahal, right? So you get a tourist visa for India.
Maybe you fell in love and you would want to move to India, which means you would probably need an India Entry Visa.
Maybe you want to study classical dance and you would get a student visa. And well, how about opening a business? Selling something? Now, that calls for a Business visa for India.
I got an Indian Business Visa while living in the United States as a Mexican citizen. Contrary to a bunch of posts that I had read in some forums, India business visa requirements weren’t hard to understand.
And should you go for it, it’s real easy to get it online or through the embassy, as long as you have the legitimate proof.

India business visa cost is 80 USD. You can pay using any of the 3 gateways. I used SBI gateway and paid using an international credit card. You can also pay through Paypal.
The Visa fee payment status update may take up to 2 hours due to technical reasons/network delays. I didn’t face any issues.
They ask you to make the payment at most before 4 days of your journey date.

Entering India on Business Visa
At the time of entering India, I simply had to show the ETA and my passport at the airport. They also asked for an address at the airport for which I provided the address of a hotel where I planned to stay for a few days.
I did my biometrics and that was it.
Before the 180 days were over, you would need to leave and reenter.
Dagmar Stimpfig says
Hello Jose Antonio,
thank you for this article. Are you in India now?
We plan to set up a little guest house with bakery in India.
So if we choose the e-visa version, what to do when the visa has run out after 365 days? Is it possible to apply then again with an e-business visa?
What more requirements are there, if we go for the other, ordinary business visa, which additional documents are necessary?
And what is meant by “You need to provide a reference for India and a reference for the country that you are a citizen of.”? How does such a reference look like?
Would be great to get a reply!
Best regards, Dagmar and Michael
Deb Pati says
Hi Dagmar,
Yes, you can get more than one e-business visa.
For the ordinary business visa, you would need to show proof of financial stability, proof of expertise in your field, and reasons why you want to invest in India. This varies from country to country. For some countries, they give it for 10 years. For some, up to 5. The article would be updated soon with this info.
The reference is simply a friend or a person close to you who can be contacted in case of any emergency or any issues.

I thought you had to provide a written letter from an Indian registered business for a business visa? Has this changed?
Deb Pati says
Hi Amy,
For the paper visa, you would need the invitation letter from the Indian company.

Hi Jose,
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the business e-visa for India! I applied for one yesterday and I also received an ETA within 24 hours. I’m very surprised how easy it was to obtain this ETA. Now I’m wondering, once arrived in the airport: how much did they question the purpose of your visit? And didn’t you need to show proof of sufficient funds for your stay and an invitation letter of the company that invited you to India?
I know you wrote that they simply asked for biometrics and address of stay for the few coming days, but I’m just checking because I’m just so surprised how easy it seems to be to obtain a business e-visa.
Again, thank you for sharing your experience, it gave me some insights in what to expect.
Katalin Steger says
Hi Jose, your article is very encouraging. I will apply for it from Hungary. I would like to ask about leaving and reentering. Isn’t it possible to stay continuously or what destination would you suggest for a short visit in order to keep it cheep and simple?
thankyou
Deb Pati says
Hi Katalin,
Yes it is possible to stay continuously for 6 months if you get the visa that I got. But if you are only planning on visiting, you can get a paper visa for tourism : https://thevisaproject.com/experience/india/indian-tourist-visa-one-year/ or an online visa with multiple entries:
https://thevisaproject.com/experience/india/indian-online-visa-90-days/
India is a big country, so there are lots of places. Goa is very popular and not that expensive. Jaipur is quite popular with tourists as well. Also recommend Jaipur.
Elora says
Hi Jose,
I filled out the whole E-business visa application like stated above but wasn’t asked to upload a photo of my passport. I entered passport details in the beginning but wasn’t faced with a place to upload the actual passport document. Where in the process did you upload your passport photo? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Deb Pati says
Hi Elora,
You should see the options to upload the pics before the final submission. Were you able to submit and pay without doing that? It is strange.
